I Am Joe
Iowahawk has a great piece up about the recent media investigations into Joe Wurzelbacher - aka Joe the Plumber. Now, honest people can disagree about the wisdom Mr. Wurzelbacher's criticism of 0bama's tax proposals. That's the entire point of democracy. I happen to think a lawyer lecturing a plumber on the need to "spread the wealth around" is more than a little ridiculous. But, that's beside the point. Mr. Wurzelbacher did not go after Sen. 0bama to attack him. He was playing football in his front yard with his kid. The Sen. from Illinois approached him. Mr. Wurzelbacher, in turn, had the temerity to ask him an uncomfortable question that addressed a real concern. In response, the man was accused of everything from being a tax cheat to a fraud to a racist to having his occupation mocked. In short, an innocent man has been targeted by the national media and the 0bama campaign for destruction for the "crime" of questioning a candidate's policies. Well, even though I'm from a background very different from Mr. Wurzelbacher and probably have little in common with him, I'm Joe. When you smear him, you smear me. I take personal offense to the insults the attacks and the distortions. So, to the jackals in the media, the 0bama campaign, or the left-wing blogosphere, just remember, the next time you want my good opinion or want to talk "bipartisanship":
